Materials - Processes - Finishes
In my time in the construction industry I have been involved in the installation of many unique materials and observed many new processes. It would be impossible to list them all but some things to note would be:
Concrete: reinforced slab, synthetic and steel fiber reinforcement, placement via pumps, telebelts, buggies and tailgated, superflat finishing techniques to achieve FFs of over 150, thickened and monolithic slab pours up to 5’ thick, epoxy coated rebar, shallow and pier foundations, post tension structures, tilt wall casting and erection, insulated precast, multi step freezer slab pours with cast in heat trace, cast in place walls, cast in place box culverts, sealing compounds, joint sealant, epoxy coated concrete, stained concrete, ect.
Steel: structural column and joist/girder framing, structural mezzanines, steel and CMU structures, reinforcement of existing steel joists and girders up to 250% of their original capacity through additive welding, welding in confined spaces, slab on deck structures, ect.
MEPS: copper, PEX, CPVC, stainless, cast iron process plumbing pipe, RTUs, exhaust fans, spiral and flex duct, smart dampers, evaporative cooling, cooler/freezer condensers and evaporators, mini splits, back-up generators, dual substation power, on site loops, transformers and gears install, secondary panels, 120v to 800v systems, grounded silos and buffer tanks, POE lighting fixtures and switches, IDF cabinets, IT room layout, buildings with multiple IT rooms, site lighting, split fire supression systems, fire and sprinkler loops, bypass valves, hydrotesting, fire pump installs, ESFR systems, FM 200 systems, MEP alterations due to owner installed equipment, ect.
Heavy Industrial Process: stainless steel and CPVC waste lines up to 24'“ in diameter, holding and buffer tanks, lift stations, wastewater treatment facilities, stainless steel trench drains up to 100’ long, looped electrical services, high pressure gas lines, industrial boilers, IMP clean rooms and cooler/freezers, ect.
Sitework: retaining walls both structural and decorative, storm install up to 66” in diameter and repair of a 12’ wide box culvert, underground storm water retention systems, heavy duty concrete and asphalt paving, engineered excavations over 20’ in depth, blasting of various rock, experience with many different soil types from NC red clay, TX limestone, KS black clay, GA sand, ect.
High End Finishes: class A office spaces, LVT, patterned ceramic flooring, EFIS and Nichiha wall paneling, stucco on CMU to match tilt panels. patterned tilt wall formliners, Stonehard and other epoxy floorings, stained concrete, Rytec high speed roll up doors, automotive photo booths, aluminum composite paneling, “Big Ass Fans”, custom millwork, muraled walls, ect.
Below I have included photos of some of these processes during construction.
